Hi Amir, tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into the field of UI/UX? And what was your journey before NODE Robotics?
I hold a degree in electrical engineering from Bangladesh. My career began in the telecommunications industry as a site reliability engineer, where I gained invaluable experience in ensuring system stability and efficiency. Motivated by a passion for crafting user-friendly software, I transitioned into software development, starting as a backend developer. Over time, my interest in intuitive user interfaces and problem-solving led me to focus on creating seamless, navigable applications that offer exceptional user experiences. With over 10 years in the field, I approach each day as a fresh opportunity to learn and innovate.
What attracted you to UI/UX in the robotics industry, and what keeps you passionate about this field?
Although I didn’t have prior experience in the robotics industry, stepping into this field has been an exciting and rewarding challenge. What attracted me most to UI/UX in robotics is the potential to simplify complex systems by enhancing user interactions through intuitive system and providing the right information at the right time to create a seamless experience. Our customer-first approach empowers us to explore innovative solutions and deliver exceptional outcomes. My passion for crafting outstanding UI/UX, combined with the collaborative and supportive environment at Node, continues to inspire me to create software that truly makes a difference.
Can you tell us about your role as a Chapter Lead in UI/UX and what your main priorities are at NODE Robotics?
As a Chapter Lead in UI/UX at NODE Robotics, my primary responsibility is to address and resolve UI-related problems promptly, ensuring seamless user experiences. I focus on maintaining high standards in our codebase through regular code reviews, rigorous testing in simulations also in real-world scenarios, and fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment through regular meetings. In addition to leading and mentoring the team, I actively contribute to development efforts and drive plans aligned with our organizational goals, constantly striving to deliver innovative and impactful solutions.
In an industry that requires both precision and ease of use, how do you balance technical complexity with a user-friendly experience?
We focus on creating simple and user-friendly software through well-designed UIs. Our priority is to understand user needs and make complex systems easy to navigate. By presenting clear information and streamlining workflows, we ensure users can work confidently and efficiently. This approach helps us deliver solutions that are both technically strong and easy to use.
NODE emphasizes seamless integration. What are some ways you address integration challenges from a UI/UX perspective?
Tackling integration challenges from a UI/UX perspective requires close collaboration with different teams. Through detailed discussions and alignment on requirements, we are actively developing a tool designed to simplify and streamline integration processes, which will further enhance efficiency and deliver a seamless experience for our users soon.
How do you see UI/UX design impacting operational efficiency and scalability for our clients?
By optimizing the user experience, we can significantly reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks. Even small improvements, such as saving just one minute per operation, can add up when users perform these tasks 20 to 30 times a day. These time savings not only improve overall productivity but also contribute to a more efficient and scalable workflow, enabling our clients to achieve better results with less effort.
Can you share an example of a recent UI/UX challenge your team tackled and how it impacted the end-user experience?
We have successfully developed our in-house design system, which allows internal UI teams to quickly create UI elements in a short amount of time. This system accelerates the design process and ensures consistency across the software, maintaining a unified design and user experience throughout all phases of development. By using this tool, we can deliver a seamless and cohesive experience for users, while improving efficiency and reducing design-related challenges.
How do you stay inspired and continuously bring fresh ideas to your work at NODE Robotics?
I think this comes from the collaborative environment fostered by both our team and management. Everyone is encouraged to share their ideas and engage in open discussions, which creates a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. This supportive atmosphere motivates us to push the boundaries of creativity and strive for excellence, helping us deliver the best possible solutions for our clients.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone interested in UI/UX within robotics, what would it be?
UI/UX is a challenging and rewarding field that requires a profound understanding of customer needs while providing intuitive and user-friendly solutions. In robotics, this is no different. Working in this space offers individuals the opportunity to continuously learn, take on new challenges, and push the boundaries of their skills. The most important quality for success is a mindset focused on growth, embracing innovation, and striving to exceed one's limits to create exceptional user experiences that truly make a difference.
